Recently, Battlerigs had the incredible privilege of attending Insomnia i72, not just as enthusiastic gamers, but as accredited press! This access granted us an unparalleled window into the heart of the event, allowing us to experience the very essence of the gaming community first-hand.
Esports
Our i72 adventure began at the electrifying AK Esports stand. The roar of virtual engines filled the air as we strapped ourselves into their cutting-edge racing simulators. The adrenaline rush was undeniable, pushing our reflexes and racing instincts to the limit. After a thrilling virtual duel, we eagerly ventured further into the labyrinthine corridors of Insomnia i72.
The true beating heart of Insomnia, however, resided within the LAN Party. Here, hundreds of gamers convened, their passion for gaming manifesting in the form of awe-inspiring, custom-built PCs. Each machine was a testament to the creativity and technical prowess of its owner, boasting unique configurations and eye-catching aesthetics. We spent a considerable amount of time immersing ourselves in this wonderland of technology, geeking out over the sheer ingenuity on display. Witnessing the meticulously crafted cooling systems, the eye-watering number of monitors, and the sheer power emanating from these machines was a true spectacle for any PC enthusiast.
But Insomnia i72 was more than just high-powered machines and competitive spirit. It was a vibrant tapestry woven from the threads of various gaming subcultures. Gamers of all stripes, from seasoned veterans clad in team jerseys to wide-eyed newcomers clutching their favourite controllers, rubbed shoulders and shared experiences. Conversations flowed freely, fuelled by a shared passion for the digital world.
Cosplay
Cosplay enthusiasts were out in force, bringing video game characters to life in stunning costumes. Their dedication and artistry were evident in every meticulous detail. Elaborate costumes, from iconic heroes to obscure villains, brought the fantastical worlds of video games to life before our very eyes. Witnessing their passion and the hours poured into crafting these incredible outfits was a humbling and inspiring experience.
Esports teams huddled together, their faces etched with concentration as they strategized and prepared for the upcoming clashes. The competitive energy was palpable, a testament to the dedication and skill required to thrive in the professional esports scene.
The atmosphere crackled with a sense of camaraderie and pure enjoyment, a celebration of everything gaming. One of the undeniable highlights of Insomnia i72 was the cosplay championships. The talent on display was breath-taking. From meticulously crafted armour and flowing gowns that seemed to come straight out of a fantasy novel to hauntingly accurate replications of fantastical creatures, the cosplayers poured their hearts and souls into their creations. The level of detail and craftsmanship was astounding, with every stitch, every prop, and every prosthetic meticulously crafted to bring the character to life. Witnessing their passion and dedication was a truly inspiring experience, a beautiful reminder of the boundless creativity that flourishes within the gaming community.
As our time at Insomnia i72 drew to a close, we reluctantly made our way back to our studio in Lincoln. However, the event’s energy and enthusiasm remained etched in our memories. Battlerigs strongly recommends attending Insomnia – it’s more than just a gaming convention; it’s a full-fledged celebration of gaming culture in all its vibrant forms. Insomnia is a long-running event in the UK, and i72 wasn’t the first iteration we’ve had the pleasure of attending. Over the years, we’ve witnessed the event snowball in size and popularity, transforming from a niche gathering to a sprawling celebration of gaming in all its forms. The sense of community has always been strong, but i72 felt particularly special. Perhaps it was the sheer number of attendees, all united by their love of gaming, or maybe it was the electric atmosphere that crackled throughout the venue. Whatever the reason, Insomnia i72 left a lasting impression on us, and we eagerly await the next opportunity to immerse ourselves in the vibrant world of Insomnia.
